Acts of Terrorism Response

This introductory guide for first responders is essential for those who may be among the first to arrive at an incident of suspicious origin. It is intended to be a general introduction to the basic concepts for first responder awareness at the scene of a potential terrorist incident.

Teaching Methodology & Evaluation

This course is a self-paced, internet-based training course. The course contains review exercises and case studies to re-enforce the course content, and students are evaluated via multiple choice exam. Upon completion of the course, students will receive a certificate of completion.

Course Content

Emergency Response to Terrorism - Awareness Training Course consists of four individual training modules (each requiring approximately 45 minutes to complete.) All four modules must be completed within 180 days of starting the course to receive a certificate of completion.

Module 1: Terrorism in Perspective

This module is an introduction, an overview of terrorism from the perspective of the first responder.

Module 2: Incidents and Indicators

This module deals with recognizing suspicious incidents, key indicators, warning signs, detection clues.

Module 3: Self-Protection

This module deals with the types of potential harm and means of protection.

Module 4: Scene Control, Notification and Coordination

This module focuses on the initial response to a potential terrorist incident including arrival considerations, scene isolation, evacuation and procedures for activating response resources.
